Awards for Excellence ~ New Futures Training 2019

The New Futures Training Award for Excellence exemplifies the achievements of our students who have shown exceptional commitment to their studies.
The awards for 2019 were presented at the VICSEG New Futures Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the 3rd of December, by each of the student’s trainers along with Maree Raftis – General Manager of NFT.

Pauline Bryan Award for Excellence : Certificate III in Individual Support
Tiai was born in Samoa and as a young person she found schooling very difficult and dropped out at age of 12. After she moved to Australia and she realised the importance of needing a qualification to get by. Her uncle and aunty introduced her to New Futures Training, her auntie being a former student with us. Being out of school for 15 years, Tiai knew it wouldn’t be easy. She studied hard and attended extra homework support to understand the lectures. She was happy to receive unconditional support from staff which made her learning enjoyable again.

New Futures Award for Excellence: Certificate III in Health Services Assistance
Nasra migrated to Australia on October 1996, she has 9 children, eldest is 23 and youngest is 4. With no family to support her, it is hard to imagine, how she was able to juggle a full time course and being a mother of 9. Nasra initially enrolled in Health Services Assistance with a different institute but struggled to find placement with no support from her school and had to put her studies on hold. She then came across New Futures Training. Our Placement Team assisted her with finding a place to complete her placement hours. With the support Employment Team Nasra got a job in St Vincent’s Hospital. On finishing her second course in Individual Support, Nasra got her second job in Absolute Care. 
She is currently doing her placement in Gellibrand for Certificate IV in Disability - where she has also got a job offer!

New Futures Award for Excellence as a participant in the Jobs Victoria Program
Zahra and her family fled Iran seeking safety in Australia. It has now been 8 years since they arrived and for the first time since their arrival, Zahra decided to do a course and start working.
She enrolled with us last year. After 2 weeks of placement, Zahra was encouraged to apply for a job in an aged care facility. She is now happily employed at Newmans on the Park – Aged Care

New Futures Award for Excellence: Certificate IV in Disability
Ferry came to Australia in 2008. Ferry always dreamed of becoming a nurse one day. A friend of hers recommended New Futures Training where she enrolled in the Certificate IV in Disability as a pathway to a career in Nursing. According to Ferry, her teachers are very helpful and she is happy that she started not one but two jobs because of VICSEG. She is currently working in First Call Agency and SPECTRUM agency.

New Futures Award for Excellence: Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care
Farah is currently pursuing a Diploma and with her dedication, perseverance and knowledge around children, she has already landed herself a part time permanent position as an Educational Leader and Montessori mentor.
Farah is a student who always strives to better herself, she has plans to further study the Advance Diploma of Community Sector Management.

Trin Cooke Memorial ‘Bright Spark’ Award Certificate III in Early Childhood Education & Care
Mosoumeh’s teacher Riccarda describes her as having a ‘can do’ attitude. She has continuously demonstrated a high standard of work and supported others to do so as well.
She was an active member of the class, always contributing to discussions and sharing her experience from placement. Her placement host was so impressed with Mosoumeh’s professionalism and skills that she has been employed casually while still studying, with an offer of permanent employment once she completes.

New Futures Award for Excellence: Certificate III in Education support
Richa is an incredibly hard working and dedicated student, balancing two courses and motherhood she still achieved near perfect attendance.
She was a delight in the classroom, always participating and supporting her fellow students. Richa was always the first student to arrive and the last one to leave.
She received glowing feedback from her placement school and has recently gained employment in an Early Childhood Education and Care Service. 
Richa plans to continue her studies in 2020 and has enrolled in the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.
